Student Visa – Full Guide
For students enrolled in Japanese universities, vocational schools, or language schools. Part-time work allowed up to 28 hours/week (40 hrs during long vacations).
The Student visa allows foreign nationals to study at Japanese universities, graduate schools, junior colleges, technical colleges, vocational schools, or language schools. With a 'Permission to Engage in Activity Other than that Permitted' certificate, students may work part-time up to 28 hours/week (40 hours during long vacations). To change to a work visa after graduation, students must apply for a status change within Japan before their student visa expires.

The 28-hour weekly work limit is cumulative. Exceeding it can negatively affect future visa applications. When planning to change to a work visa after graduation, start preparing at least 3 months before your student visa expires.
