Await the Decision & Receive Your Card
Processing takes 1–3 months. After approval, collect your residence card and complete resident registration.
Processing times vary by status type and individual circumstances, generally 1–3 months. If questions arise during review, the immigration bureau may contact you by email or phone to request additional materials. When approved, you will be notified via letter or the online system and must visit the counter (or receive by mail) to collect your new residence card.
Step-by-Step Instructions
- 1Periodically check the status of your application (via the online system or by phone inquiry)
- 2After approval, bring the notification letter, passport, and current residence card to the immigration bureau to collect your new residence card
- 3Within 14 days of receiving the new residence card, update or confirm your resident registration at the municipal office
Important Notes
If rejected, you can request an explanation of the rejection reasons from the immigration bureau. After understanding the cause, having an administrative scrivener restructure and resubmit the application sometimes results in approval.
