Step 3 / 4

Submit Your Application

Submit to the Regional Immigration Services Bureau or use a licensed administrative scrivener.

Once all documents are ready, submit them in person at the Regional Immigration Services Bureau that has jurisdiction over your place of residence, or have a licensed administrative scrivener submit on your behalf. Some applications can also be submitted online through the 'Residence Application Online System'. If your current status expires during the review period, you may remain in Japan legally under the special extension period.

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. 1Find the location and opening hours of the immigration bureau that handles your area (typically 9:00–16:00, weekdays only)
  2. 2Submit all documents at the counter directly, or use the online system (requires prior user registration)
  3. 3Keep the 'Application Receipt Slip' issued by the counter and confirm the estimated review timeframe

Important Notes

If you receive a 'Request for Additional Documents' notice after submission, respond by the specified deadline. Missing the deadline may result in your application being rejected.
