Step 2 / 4
Gather Your Documents
Collect application form, passport, photos, qualification certificates, employment contract, etc.
Document preparation is the most time-consuming step, typically taking 2–4 weeks. Some documents (such as foreign public records) require notarization and translation; others (such as employer certificates) require cooperation from your employer. Print the official document checklist and check items off one by one.
Step-by-Step Instructions
- 1Download and fill in the latest version of the application form from the Immigration Services Agency website
- 2Collect all required originals and copies; arrange notarization and Japanese translation for foreign public documents
- 3Check the validity period of each document (e.g., bank balance certificates are typically required to be issued within the past 3 months)
Important Notes
If there are errors in the application form or missing documents, the examiner may request additional materials. This suspends the review clock and can significantly delay the overall process. Consider asking an administrative scrivener to verify the completeness of your documents.
