SSW Type 2 Expanded to All Industries
SSW2 visa now covers all 14 industry sectors, allowing unlimited renewals and family sponsorship. The biggest visa policy change since 2024.
Prior to 2024, SSW Type 2 was limited to just two sectors: construction and shipbuilding. The March 2024 ordinance revision expanded it to all 14 designated industry sectors, including food & beverage, agriculture, nursing care, accommodation, fishing, and manufacturing. This removes the 5-year cumulative stay limit and allows family members to accompany the visa holder to Japan.
